WORK WHERE HE LOVES ANEW

Summer 2016, I was in deep grief after a split with my partner of five years. He was my best friend. We lived together and shared a studio space. I kept the apartment and he got the studio, which is also in the building where I work. The ceiling above my desk was the floor of his space. After 4 weeks, he got a new girlfriend. She stayed there often.
He's still my best friend.

POEMS FOR BUDDY

While I was recovering from a broken heart, I fell for a stranger. He told me I was special. He also told me he didn't want to ruin things by being intimate because he needed to be alone. He asked me to trust him. I did. One day I found out in was in love with another girl and they were together. I went to the coast of Washington for a week long artist residency to heal my heart. While there, I typed these poems I had been writing on post-it notes for the 2 months leading up to the residency. On the third day, she arrived and stayed in the trailer across from me for the remaining part of my stay. She worked there. I didn't know. It was challenging.
